spearheaded the first Upper Darby Police Foundation and created an Elementary School/ Police Officer mentoring program. He is the voice for the less fortunate, an advocate for the underprivileged, for victim rights and mental health issues.
As Superintendent of an extremely demanding, developing and thriving Department, he works tirelessly to bring a quality of life to each resident of our community. He works to insure that his Officers are equipped with the latest in cutting edge technology and training to enable them to do their job most effectively.
While orchestrating the administrative duties of his position he remains a Cop's Cop. He enjoys the true nittygritty; get your hands dirty - real police work. How to get the bad guy off the street and keep the community safe is his primary motivation. It is not uncommon to see him at 2AM biking with the Mountain Bike Unit. He goes out on patrol, raids, and drug bust. He even directs traffic and writes traffic citations.
Lean, fit and trim, he is in the gym daily and is an avid bicyclist. He is well disciplined, and a perfectionist by nature. Passionate about the way he lives his life, dedicated to law enforcement, family, friends and community.
Clearly, someone other the Superintendent prepared his bio. For had it been completed by Superintendent, it would simply read, “Hi, I'm Mike Chitwood, how can I help you?”
