Judge William R. Carpenter of the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas was elected in November of 1993. He is the fifty-ninth Judge in the history of Montgomery County.
From 1979-1993 he was an Assistant District Attorney in Montgomery County He was the First District Attorney from 1985-193. During that time he supervised Homicide and Wiretapping investigations. He was also active in the Montgomery County Bar Association serving on the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee, the Long Range Planning Committee, and the Judiciary Committee. He was a chairman of the Rules of Criminal Court Committee and the Cultural Committee.
In 1999 he was appointed as the Chairman of the Governor’s Advisory Committee on Probation, serving two terms. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Conference of State Trial Judges Gender Fairness Committee. He is currently serving as a subcommittee chair on the Committee to Study Wrongful Convictions.
Judge Carpenter received his B.A. from Juniata College, and his J.D. from Ohio Northern University. He sand his wife live in Montgomery County with their four sons.
