Captain George Rhoades, Jr. is a thirty-one year law enforcement veteran. Upper Darby born, raised and educated, he is a graduate of Monsignor Bonner High School and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Neumann University.
In 1983 he joined the Upper Darby Police Department and shortly thereafter was assigned to the Highway Patrol Division. He was assigned to the Detective Division in 1992, was promoted to Sergeant in 1995, Lieutenant in 2001, and Captain in 2006 – commanding the Criminal Investigations and Narcotics Division.
Captain Rhoades is an FBI trained crisis/hostage negotiator, certified polygraph examiner, a trained homicide investigator and a court recognized expert in narcotics, interview and interrogation. He has worked closely with the FBI Violent Offenders Task Force, U.S. Marshalls and Office of the Attorney General.
He is the recipient of a myriad of awards for heroism, bravery and merit, including the prestigious Marine Corps League - Officer of the Year Award (2000) and the Legion of Excellence Award for outstanding police work (1996).
Captain Rhoades is an active member of the Pennsylvania Homicide Investigations Association, Delaware County Narcotics Task Force and the American Polygraph Association. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Upper Darby Community Outreach Corporation and has served as a Board Member for West Philadelphia Catholic High School.
