Thank you, C.B.
This is being written on behalf of a generally unknown hero.
He’s a person who’s dedicated his life to helping the poor and the homeless, and - most of all - trying to stop the senseless crimes that are going on in this city.
I first met this man when he was teaching in the ‘70s at Wagner Junior High. He knew everyone connected with the 76ers. He was well-known to all the social lights in the city and could have been rich today.
He gave all of this up to help the black community without taking a dime. The name of this man is Mr. C.B. Kimmins.
I saw him recently on the phone trying to organize a protest of the senseless killing of two young blacks at 29th and Morris.
As I write this, tears comes to my eyes when I think why is this white man doing this? The only answer I could come up with is: He cares.
I see people being given awards, and grants for their work, and here is a man who gave up the life of luxury and fame to help my people, and asked for nothing in return, not even a thank you.
I want to say on behalf of my Afro-American brothers and sisters, thank you, my friend for trying to make this a better community.
