Morris S. Allen IV was always a very imaginative child – playing the part of some super hero – his favorite being Ninja Turtles. As he got older, he showed an interest in cooking which lead him to The Restaurant School in Phila. Although he enjoyed being able to put his spin on different recipes, Morris decided to try a different path for his career.
Morris turned his focus to homeland security, working as a screener at Phila. International Airport. He enjoyed the opportunity to briefly interact with celebrities as they went through the airport’s security system, but after a few years he decided to apply to work for the Phila. Fire Dept. After all, super heroes are always saving lives and walking into harm’s way when most of us would run.
With his application was accepted and having successfully passed the entrance exam, Morris entered the fire academy. In a moment of uncertainty, he asked his mother, “What if I don’t make it in the academy. What’s my plan B?” Her response was. “There is no plan “B.” The plan is to stay the course and make it.” As she knew he would, Morris passed with flying colors.
The first time he came home with his bunker gear, pride and fear filled his mother’s heart. Proud that he had chosen a career befitting the super heroes he pretended to be as a child, and fear for a son going into extremely dangerous situations. She prays daily that Morris and his co-firefighters will be shielded from harm.
Morris lives and breathes his job. A natural at fire fighting, his family is extremely proud of their very own, personal super hero. |
