Margie Mathauser grew up in Philadelphia as the third of six children to James and Margaret O’Connell. Margie and her husband of 37 years, Bob, moved to Abington 35 years ago and have raised two daughters here; Erin, 31 and a high school teacher, and Bridget, 26 years old and a writer. In her spare time, Margie enjoys yoga and meditation, reading, gardening, and traveling with her husband.
Working for the Abington Library for the past eleven years gives Margie the chance to interact with the community, which is one of her favorite aspects of the job. She especially loves helping the children check out their books, and has become known as the “Stamp Lady” to all the children because of the extra time she takes just to make them smile.
In addition, Margie also enjoy seeing the dedication of all those who take part in the Literacy Program, “The Literacy Program graduation is one of my favorite programs at the Library. Those involved put so much time and hard work into that program and then to see the reward for all that effort really is touching and heartwarming.”
Some of Margie’s future goals include continuing to encourage the community to donate to the library, to travel more often with her husband, and to “create the prettiest garden in all of Abington.”
