On March 28, 1990, Michael Jordan scored his highest career 69 points in one game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. During the post-game interview, teammate Stacey King stated to this effect: "This is a historic night in basketball, everybody will remember when Michael Jordan and I combined for 70 points in one game!”

In this Banquet I feel like Stacey King amid all fellow honorees: humble and proud. I am humbled but filled with gratitude for this recognition considering my lowly contribution to the cause of social equity in our justice system and the work of assisting those who come out of incarceration with programs to help them find jobs, housing, and skills training and education. I accepted this honor if only to highlight this need and continue to remove the stigma from those who try to rebuild their lives after incarceration and assist them in their efforts towards employment, skills training and education and other best practices that reduce recidivism.
