MARJORIE SHRAGHER

I have a background as a former Certified Addictions Counselor. After that I became a nurse to further my helping skills.  I have worked as a RN in critical care for a large part of my career.  Currently I work as a nursing instructor at Roxborough Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.  I also work at Jefferson Northeast as a per diem staff RN in the ICU. In the past, I volunteered for Buck county’s Network of Victim Assistance (NOVA) in their Speaker’s Bureau. At various points in my career, I have volunteered for different organizations.  Personally, I am a survivor of Domestic Violence. I walked away from my marriage with the clothes on my back and my infant.  I know what it is like to be on both sides of the volunteering, being the volunteer and receiving help.  Giving back to others is important to me.
I am passionate about building people up, whether it is a student, peer or someone who needs help. I work hard with the students to build their resilience. I teach Mental Health Nursing and Advanced Medical Surgical Nursing.  In teaching student nurses, I try to create an atmosphere that promotes less stress. I teach various techniques about stress management for clients, but in the classroom, I practice these techniques with the students. I promote self-care, gratitude, and seeing something good in everything.  I encourage students to get involved and give back.
At the end of the day, I think how fortunate I am to be able to have an opportunity to make an impact on others. I am humbled to be chosen for this award
