MAURICE ANTOINE "TONY" DAVIS
2019 Golden Heart Award Winner

A native of Clarksburg, WV, Tony graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College with a BA in Youth Services and West Virginia University with an MA in Counseling.   He entered the Counseling Psychology Ph.D. program at Teacher’s College of Columbia University.

Currently, he is a Counselor at Montgomery County Community College (MCCC), Blue Bell, PA.  His previous post at the college was Assistant Director of Admissions where he founded the Montgomery County Alliance of Black Students (MABS).  He is the advisor to the African-American Student League (ASL) and Chairperson of the African Heritage Alliance (AHA), which is the Black faculty and staff organization at the college.  Tony has served on a variety of MCCC all-college committees.

Tony’s passion is to give his time and energy to community activities that will benefit youth.  He is a planning committee member and presenter for the Annual Black Male Development Seminar at Arcadia University.  Tony volunteered with TEAM, a mentoring program designed to address the achievement gap within Wissahickon School District.  Currently, he works with the Concerned African-American Parents group of the Upper Dublin School District to address the achievement gap.  He regularly conducts Diversity Workshops that emphasize a historical prospective relative to Racism, Sexism, Religion, etc. and the connection to Power.   Another workshop explores an overview of financial investments.  Researching the Family Tree is an additional passion because he is very interested in the treasures that one develops by simply knowing who they are.  Career Exploration, Time Management Techniques, and College Survival Skills are also areas of expertise.

Tony is a Founding Board Member of the International Mentoring Association.  His mentoring experience began as Coordinator of the Minority Student’s Program at Marshall University.  The mentoring program blossomed into a conduit for many of the students to become active in leadership positions on campus.  He is the creator of MABS, Montgomery County Alliance of Black Students a group that operated via MCCC.  The group included the African-American and/or Multicultural Awareness Clubs at all local high schools and had mentoring at the core of its mission.  Many students have continued that leadership trend into their professional careers.

He received the Outstanding Young Men of America Award, a member of ODK- a leadership academy; Who’s Who, 2008 South Eastern Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission Annual Community Service Award recipient and 2010 MCCC Advisor of the Year.  He is a Prince Hall Mason; Willow Grove, PA - NAACP Executive Committee – 1st Vice President and is a “First Class American.”
His goal is to build Kings and elevate Queens to the throne so that “The Village” is restored.  The children need the village…as do we all!

He is the husband of Dr. Darlene Davis, Retired Superintendent, Cheltenham School District, PA. He is also the father of two boys, Talib 21 and Tymere 25.
